How would an electric motorcycle fare in the world of drag racing? That is what Harley-Davidson is trying to answer in Science of Speed.
Starring Screamin’ Eagle & Hines team racers Eddie Krawiec, Andrew Hines, and Angelle Sampey, Harley Davidson’s latest YouTube production places the FXDR and the LiveWire side by side.
According to the press release, Science of Speed “looks at how electric vehicle propulsion will change the sport of drag racing,” with the LiveWire’s immediate torque and seamless twist-and-go acceleration.
Three-time Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Sampey swapped his FXDR competition bike for the electric-powered production model to rewrite the record books in terms of elapsed time and top speed. He covered the eighth- and quarter-mile course in 7.017secs and 11.156secs, respectively, at 177.6kph.
The LiveWire is equipped with the H-D Revelation powertrain to handle instant acceleration, boasting a 0 to 60mph (0 to 97kph) time of three seconds, and 60 to 80mph (97 to 129kph) in 1.9secs.
