Former players Rico Maierhofer and Jayjay Helterbrand were joined by Blackwater Elite teammates KG Canaleta and Roi Sumang in their latest motorcycle trip—to Quest Hotel Clark, where the remaining teams in the pandemic-shortened season have been staying.
Only the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the Meralco Bolts, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters, and the TNT Tropang Giga are still playing for the 2020 Philippine Cup championship. Ginebra and Phoenix are leading their respective semifinal series as of this writing.
Canaleta and Sumang were able to join the Moto Club after Blackwater failed to make the playoffs. Although they didn’t enter the bubble for obvious safety reasons, Maierhofer and crew revved their engines in the vicinity as a show of support for the squads that are still in contention.
One player, JC Intal of the Fuel Masters, actually went out to meet the group from across the hotel gate. Intal, who is also a motorcycle aficionado, can be heard in one clip, “Sige, mang-inggit pa kayo!” They wished the Phoenix forward a happy birthday and good luck before riding off.
In another part of the video, Helterbrand also sent his ex-teammate Mark Caguioa a birthday greeting, adding, “Sana mag-champion na kayo para maka-ride na tayo ulit.”
