Former senator JV Ejercito was out for a bicycle ride when he noticed Grab rider Joy Calimlim Habana carrying a crutch on his electric bike.
It turns out that Habana, a person with disability, was hard at work amid the coronavirus pandemic. Ejercito had his photo taken with the rider and gave him a well-deserved shout-out on Facebook:
He wrote, “Hinabol ko talaga dahil bilib ako sa kanya! Sabi niya kailangan pakainin ang pamilya eh!”
Habana also posted their photo on his own account, where the former mayor of San Juan commented, “Di ko masabi ang tamang pananalita para sa iyong kadakilaan para lamang mapakain at mapag-aral ang pamilya!”
Upon further research, we learned that Habana was among the recipients of the Padyak! Power to the People Award in the first Mobility Awards, where San Juan was also recognized as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the metro.
