The first step is to produce a video that highlights the importance of wearing proper riding gear. This is initiated by Roshan Commercial Corporation (RCC), which is the official distributor of Spyder helmets in the Philippines.
Seventeen members of all-lady riders club Laqwachicas were joined by politician-turned-motovlogger JV Ejercito, his riding buddy Vike Llave, and a team of videographers.
The riders took off from their respective homes at around 6am, and were met with downpour as they rode to the rendezvous point along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and sought refuge.
At first, it looked like the rain won’t stop, which prompted Laqwachicas founder Rica Sison to ask her fellow members: “Shall we proceed or not?” Shortly after her question, the shower subsided and they wasted no time mounting their bikes, despite already being soaked.
The first stop was at the Poblacion in the town of Rosario, where the group had a quick breakfast of original Batangas lomi, puto cheese, and bottomless kapeng barako. The ladies changed into their club shirts before heading to the nearby Villa Cristina Farm and Resort owned by the Zuno clan for the video shoot.
“Marami na kasing naghihiligan ang magmotorsiklo, kabilang ang mga kababaihan. Mahalaga na maisulong nating lahat ang road safety awareness tulad ng pagsusuot ng tamang riding gear at pagsasailalim sa formal riding training course,” says Sison.
Laqwachicas also interviewed Ejercito about his campaign for motorcycle tourism through his The Good Ones motovlog. In collaboration with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Philippine Tourism Board (PTB), the former senator tied his i-TourMoPinas crusade to his advocacy for responsible riding.
These activities will soon be available for viewing via Laqwachicas’ social media pages.
“We want to empower women riders by providing them with appropriate riding gear. We want them to feel comfortable and secure when they’re out on the road,” says RCC vice president Sanjay Chatlani. “Partnering with Laqwachicas is just the beginning.”
