Every once in a while, JP Pining’s passions—painting and motorcycles—collide. And when they do, it results in a two wheel-themed geometric burst of colors.
Recently, the visual artist from Mandaluyong finished a commissioned artwork of a Vespa scooter, which he called ‘Forza.’ Aside from the fact that it’s another impressive piece from Pining, what’s also amusing is how he was compensated for it.
Painting sa motor,” he told Top Bikes Philippines, while refusing to name his client.
“Then nung tumagal, nagpagawa na rin yung isa pang owner.
Pining, who has previously collaborated with Starbucks and FamilyMart, first did a digital study in order to get an idea of the final product. Then, he applied his signature style and rendered a more aggressive feel to the already sporty design.
Outside his motorcycle-themed art, he likes to keep his two worlds apart: “Actually, magandang process din yung pagra-ride bago makagawa ng painting.
When he’s not holed up in his studio, Pining usually hangs out at coffee shops with his fellow riders from Vespaps and Mototechnik.
He adds the Vespa S125 to his growing scooter/bike collection that also includes a Vespa Sean Wotherspoon, Vespa Primavera, Honda Giorno, Yamaha XSR900, and a pocket bike.
Asked if he still has a dream scooter, Pining replied: “Vespa 946 siguro. Ganda ng hugis eh. Saka iba yung dating, lalo kapag nakita mo sa personal. Saka since bibihira lang makakita nun in person, maglalaway talaga pag nakakita, ha ha!”
