Have you ever dreamed of owning Honda’s latest a CBR100RR-R Fireblade SP, but can’t quite reach the P1.5 miliion price tag just yet? Well, Honda Philippines has just made the full-sized Fireblade’s mini-me available. Meet the all-new 2021 Honda CBR150R, which bears a resemblance to the Japanese brand’s 1,000cc superbike.
With the previous-generation CBR150R a bit long in the tooth at this point, it’s high time that Honda Philippines brought in the refreshed model with a whole host of upgrades. The things you can find on the all-new CBR150R include a gold-colored inverted fork for better damping and a sportier look, an assist and slipper clutch that allows for easier shifting, redesigned LED lighting front and rear, and a new fully digital LCD dash complete with a gear position indicator.
The most noticeable difference between the previous and the current model is the styling, which visibly draws heavy inspiration from Honda’s larger sportbikes. The little CBR’s design is more modern and athletic this time around, complete with a very aggressive front end, fairings that mimic the incorporated winglets on the Fireblade, and an overall larger form that belies its 150cc heart.
Powering Honda’s smallest sportbike is a 149cc 4-valve DOHC single-cylinder engine capable of 17.1hp at 9,000rpm and 14.4Nm of torque at 7,000rpm, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This motor comes with Honda’s usual engine tech, namely the brand’s PGM-Fi fuel-injection system and enhanced smart power technology.
Retained from the previous-gen model is the bank angle sensor, which automatically turns the engine off when a lean angle of 60 degrees is detected, protecting the bike and engine from further damage in the event of a crash.
The new CBR150R is only available in the Philippines in the Honda Tri-Color paint scheme, which we think looks appropriately racy. Pricing sees a slight increase at P159,900, compared to the previous model’s P152,900 starting price.
