More than a week after revealing its benchmark hyper naked, Yamaha follows up with the launch of the 2021 MT-09 SP.
The upgraded model arrives with features like cruise control and a fully adjustable KYP front and Öhlins rear suspension package. In terms of styling, its contrast stitching, clear-coated silver swingarm, and clear-smoked front and rear brake fluid reservoirs highlight its sporty leanings.
Like the standard MT-09, the SP is equipped with an 890cc DOHC liquid-cooled three-cylinder engine. This bike, however, is 3.6kg lighter because of its new lightweight aluminum frame. The SP also gets a six-axis inertial measurement unit and a 3.5-inch full-color TFT instrument display.
Other electronic components include rider-supporting traction control, lean angle-sensitive ABS, lift control, a MotoGP-developed slide control system, a quick-shift system for clutchless upshifts and downshifts, and a ride-by-wire YCC-T throttle setup.
“The 2021 MT-09 is the purest and most exciting Hyper Naked to date, an even sharper, smarter and more exclusive motorcycle that features an aggressive supersport-influenced finish with premium suspension,” the Japanese brand said in a statement.
The new MT-09 SP will be available overseas in a Raven/Liquid Metal color scheme starting March 2021 with an SRP of $10,999 (around P532,000)—$1,600 (roughly P77,000) pricier than the standard model.
