The premium scooter craze that has taken over the Philippines has now spread to the rest of Southeast Asia as well, as the 2021 update for Yamaha’s beloved Mio Aerox has now made its way to Malaysia. Sold there as the Yamaha NVX and NVX ABS, the 155cc scooter carries the same updates that our market received, with a few differences.
The 2021 Yamaha NVX Malaysia-spec, gets new more aggressive styling and a host of new color options, such as Red and Cyan for the standard variant and Platinum SE and GP Blue for the ABS trim. Of these colors, the Cyan and Platinum SE paint schemes are not available for the PH-spec Aerox.
Like the Aerox S here, the 2021 NVX ABS comes equipped with Yamaha’s new Y-Connect feature, which allows the rider to pair their smartphone with their scooter to obtain vehicle info, location, statistics, and more. We’ve had the chance to try this tech out with our first ride of the 2021 NMax 155 ABS and the 2021 Aerox S.
Both the Aerox and NVX are powered by the same 155cc liquid-cooled VVA-equipped single-cylinder engine with 15hp and 13.9Nm of torque. A larger 5.5-liter fuel tank, LED lighting, and more are standard for both variants, while features like a smart key and ABS are exclusive to the ABS trim. One difference between the Aerox and NVX is the rear suspension on the NVX ABS variant, which is a higher-spec setup with subtank-equipped shocks. The PH-market Aerox, on the other hand, has basic rear shocks identical to the standard’s rear suspension.
With the Malaysian launch of the NVX, the Aerox/NVX platform joins Yamaha’s global 155cc bike lineup alongside the YZF-R15, MT-15, and NMax 155. Pricing for the NVX in Malaysia starts at 8,998 Malaysian ringgit (about P104,000) for the standard trim, and 10,998 Malaysian ringgit (approximately P128,000) for the ABS-equipped version.. Considering how the NVX is priced slightly cheaper than the Aerox here, we’re hoping Yamaha Motor Philippines brings in the better rear suspension for the 2022 model.
