Maxi-scooters continue to revolutionize the riding landscape. To capitalize on this, BMW Motorrad has a couple of models in its ‘Urban Mobility’ catalog: the C400 X and C400 GT. These two scooters received updates at the beginning of the year to maintain competitive advantage in the fast-changing automatic market.

Now, BMW seeks to expand its presence in the Asian market by introducing the C400 GT in India. Pre-bookings have opened for this touring and comfort-oriented city scooter, which should be a popular premium choice in a country where two-wheelers reign supreme on the road.

Adding to the C400 GT’s potential marketability is its status as a ‘proper’ maxi-scooter, which puts it well above the other supposed maxi-scoots in India, such as the Aprilia SXR 160 and the Suzuki Burgman Street. While the said scooters offer similar styling to its larger variants, neither the performance nor the features come close to what an actual midsize scoot packs.

What makes the C400 GT so appealing? For starters, its looks scream not-your-average city scooter. Mean yet elegant design cues, neatly integrated turn signals, beefy but not bulky panels, and timeless color options make for quite a classy ride.

Touring and all-around comfort features include LED lighting; a tall windscreen; a front storage compartment with a USB power socket; a 6.5-inch TFT display with phone connectivity; an under-seat storage compartment that expands to accommodate a large full-face helmet; and an accessible 30.5-inch seat, among others.

Bringing the C400 GT into line with BMW’s other tech-heavy bikes are elements like the optimized Automatic Stability Control, keyless ride, and a new E-throttle grip system with a more finely tuned response.

We can’t forget about the engine, of course. Housed within the scooter’s frame is a 350cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder mill with 34hp at 7,500rpm and 35Nm of torque at 5,750rpm.

While Indian riders are still anticipating the C400 GT’s arrival, the scooter is already available here in the Philippines for P595,000.
