Even after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has extended the deadline for implementation of the 100% cashless transactions at the two tollway systems to December 1, overcrowding of applicants for RFID stickers at installation venues has gone from bad to worse.
Vehicles queuing up for RFID stickers at the off-site installation sites and customer service offices continue to multiply causing heavy traffic in those areas, not to mention the inconvenience to the applicants.
Lately, Metro Pacific Tollways (MPT) has devised a way to effectively decongest the RFID sticker installation sites, and Top Bikes Philippines was able to get a bit of information about its new system ahead of its scheduled launch on November 1, 2020.
We were able to convince an MPT official to give us a preview of what lies ahead for motorists while something is being worked out to improve their services.
According to Arlette Capistrano, assistant vice president for MPT South communications and stakeholder management, MPT will require the applicants of Easytrip RFID stickers to use the QR code which leads them to the registration form which they need to fill up online, then choose the preferred date and installation venues. And upon completion of these easy steps, the system will send them their reservation QR code through email. They then bring that QR code to the installation site on the confirmed date and they get their RFID installed. All these can be conveniently done using your own Android or iOS smartphone.
“It starts on November 15 and you can book the date you want, even on the exact date you will use the expressway. For example, you’ll go to Tagaytay of course they will use CALAX (Cavite-Laguna Expressway) exiting Santa Rosa near Silang. They can choose the date they want to go if that’s available, good and well. If not, they can choose other days, time and customer service center most convenient for them ahead of their trip,” says Capistrano.
But what about walk-in applicants? Easytrip installation venues will only entertain applicants who went through the online appointment setup. “It is also fair for those who took time to reserve (a slot),” Capistrano added.
By now, we’re pretty sure all sorts of questions are coming out of your mind. In four days, you will definitely have the answers when the MPT’s massive information campaign starts.
Take note of the schedules: The launch of this off-site sticker application setup will be on November 1 while the start of the online reservation is on November 15 until the next year, since the RFID sticker installation will continue. It’s the cash transaction at the tollway that will stop when the full implementation of the RFID system begins on December 1, 2020.
The MPT management also assured us there is more than enough supply of Easytrip RFID stickers despite the surge in the number of subscribers in recent weeks.
So motorists who will be on a staycation mode this weekend, spare yourself from the overcrowding at the designated installation sites. Stay home, relax!
