Connectivity is the name of the game these days, and Chinese-owned Italian brand Benelli isn’t going to stay behind the curve. The brand’s solution to competitors cranking out bike connectivity options is, of course, to make one as well.
The myBenelli app has been developed in cooperation with MOTO.APP and is available for download on both IOS and Android devices across Europe. Through this app, Benelli riders can create their own moto clubs, share content on social networks, participate in social challenges, view the latest Benelli-related news, and communicate with other users on the platform.
To facilitate the connection between bike and smartphone, 2021 Benelli models with engine displacements of 500cc and above, such as the Leoncino 500 and the TRK502, will come equipped with a proprietary black box hooked up to the ECU. This black box, or b-box, monitors and transfers motorcycle data to your smartphone via Bluetooth.
This system monitors ride data, real-time location, travel time, fuel consumption, and more. Also available is vehicle movement while the engine is turned off, alerting you to a possible tip-over or if someone’s attempting to make off with your bike.
Like other connectivity tech already on the market, the myBenelli app also gives you access to real-time vehicle status, battery health, and whether or not repairs or maintenance are needed, making it more convenient to keep your ride in tip-top shape. In case your Benelli does need some repairs, you can easily locate the nearest dealership through the app, as well as browse the entire parts and bike catalog should you have the urge to customize or upgrade.
A couple more neat features include an e-lock system that lets you control your bike’s ignition remotely, and a geofence security system that alerts you if the vehicle leaves the user-set perimeter.
Currently, the app is only available in Europe, with a global release date yet to be announced.
Considering the rate at which smartphone connectivity is becoming more and more integrated into the riding experience, it will only be a matter of time before your bike starts texting you to ask for a full tank of gas.
