The motorbike racer, designer, and craftsman explained: “The BMW R18 is so perfect that I left the technology as it is. The frame is 100% original and so sophisticated that nothing should be changed here.”
BMW Motorrad teamed up with select customisers for the SoulFuel series, with Kingston Custom’s ‘Spirit of Passion’ as the second R18 remodel.
The first thing you’ll notice about this custom bike is the Kingston fairing, which understandably required a lot of work. Sporting an art deco design, the fairing and wing have been modified with original paintwork and lines, with a touch of Kingston detailing.
Like the handlebars and mudguard, the bodywork has also been enhanced with a handmade Kingston finish. The turn indicators are now of the Kellermann kind, while the fairing accomodates the LED headlight.
Oehlerking customized the exhaust in Kingston Roadster style, with the saddle being a mix of various accessories. He left the suspension and fuel tank untouched.
The German customizer said: “I put a lot of thought into it beforehand. My motorbikes always convey soul, charm, and character. They’re outstanding specimens, so they require great care and attention. I have a constant stream of images running past my mind’s eye when it comes to deciding what style I want to focus on.
“Once I’ve made that choice, I start with a sketch in pencil and Tipp-Ex. Then I keep going until I know in my heart of hearts: that’s precisely it!”
