First, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic chief pointed out that the passenger is not obliged to agree to whatever the rider says about how the two of them are related, “especially if he starts claiming you’re his wife, girlfriend, or even close relative.”
Given that they document their operations and upload it online, Nebrija shared, “What is alarming is that we are receiving feedbacks that what (is) claimed by the rider is not true and that the back ride is someone else’s wife even we already blur the faces.
“This might be a scandal you do not want to be in whether to your husband, family, friends or colleagues.”
He recalled one time a habal-habal rider claimed that he was with his wife. When the authorities asked him to prove their relationship, he tried to kiss his passenger. According to Nebrija: “The lady went berserk and said, ‘Nagbayad ako ng P100, gusto mo pang makaisa! Hindi ko asawa yan, habal-habal po yan! Ganyan dapat. Huli ka, balbon!’”
The MMDA traffic chief also posted a photo of a rider who was apprehended for dress code and helmet law violations: “Takbong-pogi lang, yun pala habal-habal din.”
