Despite the risk of sounding like a broken record, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic chief Edison ‘Bong’ Nebrija won’t stop reminding the public of the hazards of dealing with habal-habal riders.
On Thursday, he shared on Facebook a screenshot of someone in a public group asking for help to find a rider who was involved in an accident, which resulted in an acquaintance getting pretty banged up.
And if that wasn’t enough to serve as a warning, he even called to mind a couple of instances where patronizing habal-habal caused distress to the passenger and the rider’s family.
The MMDA has intensified its anti-habal-habal operations for safety and security reasons, as seen on Nebrija’s personal FB account. As a rider himself, the traffic czar has regularly posted about the dangers of irresponsible motorcycling. He has also taken time to respond to some of his followers’ comments.
For the nth time, Nebrija pleads to motorcycle taxi patrons: “Sa legal na po tayo at huwag nang mag-habal-habal!”
