After a series of revivals, Buell Motorcycles is back once again. Best known for its race bikes and unique street bikes, the American manufacturer is spearheading its 2021 comeback with a new superbike called the Hammerhead.
Buell did the Hammerhead reveal via its official Facebook page. As seen in the video, riders took the new motorcycle out for a few hot laps on a racetrack to show off its cornering prowess and wheelie-happy nature.
In terms of looks, the Hammerhead combines contemporary styling with the signature design features of a Buell sportbike. A one-piece headlight is incorporated into the front fairing, giving the bike’s front end a clean and aerodynamic appearance. The fish gill vents on both sides of the fairing, as well as the sharp tail section fit with the shark-based name.
Another Buell sportbike hallmark is the single-brake rotor up front, which has the caliper mounted inside the disc instead of outside. This unconventional front brake works in tandem with the single rear rotor at the rear to rein in the 190kg superbike.
Underneath the Hammerhead’s new exterior is a platform that has a lot in common with the 1190 RX sportbike from 2014. Powering the bike is a 1,190cc V-twin engine with 185hp available at 10,900rpm. It’s a shame that we don’t get to hear the engine sing just yet, as the track footage is instead overlaid with rock music that doesn’t feel superbike-appropriate.
Buell has yet to announce pricing and availability. In the meantime, check out the video:
