Moving like one solid family, big bike groups toured more than 200km of the Calabarzon region over the weekend. This signaled the start of the government’s Philippine Motorcycle Tourism (PMT) program, which also enlisted several volunteer groups.

As early as 6am last Saturday, riders began arriving at the Rizal Park for a brief program and some safety reminders from the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) under Maria Antonette Velasco-Allones and Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Dionardo Carlos.

Former senator JV Ejercito, who was among the PMT’s prime movers, also attended the send-off ceremony. Fresh from a two-day ride in Cebu to launch the program in Cental Visayas, Ejercito later joined the big bikers on his Ducati Multistrada at the rendezvous point: Blue Coral Beach Resort in Laiya, Batangas.

“We continue to push the limits to create new ways to enjoy safe travel amid our present situation because we know that traveling and adventure give us purpose and new perspectives. This time, we are exploring the country on two wheels and presenting an alternative way of traveling to entice the public to discover more of the Philippines’ interesting culture, sites, cuisines and other tourism products,” said Allones.

Mayor Reynaldo Rillo of Maragondon, Cavite, and Mayor Eric Africa and Councilor Gally Angeles of Lipa City not only personally welcomed the participants but also served them with delicious local delicacies. Angeles is a member of Justitia Lex Machina, a motorcycle club consisting of practicing lawyers.

Riders either took the Cavite-Batangas route or Rizal-Laguna-Quezon way—both of which ran for almost 300km and ended at the Nuvali complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, where certificates of completion were distributed the next day.

The participants also took selfies as part of the competition for the best PMT photos. They were also met by intermittent rains, which made the experience more memorable.
