Accompanied by her training coach Julius Naranjo, Diaz met with the Suzuki representatives at One Eastwood Avenue. Diaz and Naranjo initially showed signs of exhaustion, which turned into big smiles upon seeing the stylish 115cc scooter for the first time. “I personally chose that color. I really like it,” Hidilyn said of the Skydrive’s Matte Blue finish, a new color scheme for the 2021 model.
Diaz grew up riding scooters at her hometown in Zamboanga until her passion for two-wheelers deepened alongside her love for the sport of weightlifting. Scooters also became her constant companion not only during training sessions but also when hanging out with friends. She even called herself a genuine “lakwatsera.”
However, the series of lockdowns prevented her from riding around for more than two years. Upon her request, the Skydrive Sport will be delivered to Zamboanga City—meaning it will take another three weeks for Diaz to see it again in the metal.
She wasted no time mounting herself on the saddle before taking the scooter for a quick round-the-bend ride. Here’s our exclusive video of Diaz on her new Skydrive Sport:
“We are one with the whole nation in celebrating Ms. Hidilyn Diaz’s success at the recent Summer Olympics in Tokyo. After learning that Ms. Hidilyn loves riding a motorcycle, we thought that it would be a good idea to give her a Skydrive Sport as a token of appreciation to her for giving honor and inspiration to the Filipinos,” says Jun Bulot, general manager for motorcycle sales and marketing of SPH.
Ride safe, Hidilyn!
