Tattoos and custom motorcycles share a bunch of similarities: Both are time-consuming endeavors, each artform results in a unique expression of the builder’s or artist’s personality and vision, and many custom bike builders happen to have tattoos.
Taking these commonalities into consideration, it only makes sense that Indian Motorcycles collaborated with renowned tattoo studios to produce a series of custom versions of the Chief cruiser. The Indian X No Regrets collaboration’s main attraction is a contest where those who book a test ride for an Indian motorcycle have the chance to win a two-day tattoo session worth £5,000 (around P347,000) and an all-expenses-paid trip to the UK. As part of this promo, Indian tapped three tattoo artists to translate their art into custom motorcycle designs.
The first of these artists is Mayonaize, a New Zealand-born artist currently based in Australia. His unique calligraphy and graffiti-inspired style has been meticulously rendered onto the Indian Chief as per his specifications. Mayonaize is especially interested in the bike’s machinery, flowing lines, and body panel fitment. It’s these points that the artist wants to emphasize with his custom design.
A live reveal of this bike, as well as those designed by the other two artists Carlos Torres and Shige, is tentatively scheduled for Spring 2022 in London. Also to be revealed at this event are the winners of a public vote for tattoo artist ideas to be realized in motorcycle design form.
