Remember the days last year when tollway booths had long lines that stretched for several kilometers? If you recall, these issues came about due to RFID glitches and shortages.

The heavy traffic caused by these long queues triggered a public uproar. Back then, motorists were beating the deadline set by the Toll Regulatory Board as part of the looming 100% cashless transactions policy on tollways. As a result, officials from both Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and SMC Tollways were called to attend a Senate hearing to explain their sides on the issue.

According to MPTC executives, these problems are already a thing of the past, as they have effectively implemented several measures to improve their services along NLEX, SCTEX, C-5 Link, CAVITEX, CALAX.

“Our Easytrip has done a lot of improvements in the system. Ipinangako natin yan ever since,” said Bobby Bontia, president and general manager of MPTC-South during, during an online media event.

Among the measures undertaken by MPTC management was the improvement of the RFID reloading system to a real-time basis. At the height of last year’s fiasco, it took more than 24 hours for motorists to be able to receive and use their RFID load. Now, they can use their load immediately once they complete their transaction through an RFID sation or through other means such as Paymaya, GCash, or Bayad Center.

However, Bontia added that those who purchase their Easytrip load through accredited banks still need to wait at least 24 hours to be able to use it due to security processes being applied by these institutions to safeguard online transactions.

With these online merchants and the on-site Easytrip reloading stations on its expressways, MPTC says it has no less than 50,000 strategically located reloading centers for motorists.

“Anywhere you go, any corner you turn, mayroon kang makikitang RFID reloading stations,” said MPTC-South spokesperson Arlette Capistrano.

Well, it’s a big relief to hear good news like this nowadays. Congratulations to MPTC!
