President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered specialized training for police offiers led by the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group, Department of Interior and Local Government secretary Eduardo Año shared.
He explained, “Ito yung mga special units na gagawin namin para maghabol lang ng mga criminals na gumagamit ng motorsiklo, mga nagka-carnap ng motorsiklo, mga nanghoholdap gamit yung motorsiklo.”
According to Año, the strategy of having uniformed and non-uniformed policemen is “just for that purpose.”
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan will need to submit the specifications of the motorcycles needed and the manpower required for the specialized units, he added.
Año also pointed out that the proposed additional purchase of 250 units outlined in the PNP budget is not enough for the entire country.
In his last televised address, Duterte revealed the government’s plan to procure more motorbikes to combat crimes committed using two-wheeled vehicles. The President, who is known for his love of motorcycles, even suggested 250cc units and called it “a good one.”
