It’s official: TJ Alberto will be participating in the upcoming Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK).
The decorated motorsports athlete and the Access Plus crew have set their eyes on the racing series, which will be held at Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga. The 2021 PSBK will commence on June 19, come back in early August, then culminate in October.
Alberto was competing in the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARCC) when the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While his team is still waiting for its resumption, they are hoping to optimize track time and win the National series.
“Given the current situation and the fact that we cannot start yet the Asia Road Racing Championship, the team has decided to enter the local series of the Philippines,” he said in a statement.
“It will be great to be back on track and to be racing again. It’s always good to race as it’s the best form of practice. Nothing prepares you more for racing than racing.”
This will be Alberto’s first time back on Pirelli tires after two years of running Dunlop in the ARCC. More importantly, this will also be his first full season in the PSBK since 2017. This time around, he will be riding a Ducati Panigale V4 R.
The two-time PSBK novice and intermediate champion said: “I am really looking forward to it. There is no pressure on me, but of course the target is to get some good results, starting this weekend with some good points on the board.
“I want to say a big thank you to all of our sponsors without whom we wouldn’t be able to compete. They have stood by me, and I want to repay them with the title.”
